Richard Cook learned the
art of bootmaking from Jack Reed, the icon from Texas who made cowboy boots for 50
years. Richard was the last student to study under Jack and bought Jack's business
when he retired in 2000.
Previous to his experience
in custom bootmaking, Richard was an artist who made bronze sculptures for 25 years. He
also served 19 years as a full time Texas Peace Officer.
His works include three
public monuments, including the Texas Ranger Monument commissioned by the Former Texas
Rangers Association.
Richard is a direct
descendant of Texas Revolution and Republic of Texas leader William G.
Cooke. He takes pride in his Texas heritage and promotes Jack Reed's belief
that when cowboy boots are made right, they are works of art and engineering.
Richard's boot shop is located
at his residence in the small community of Zorn,. Texas, which is near Seguin.
